UNO

UNO / Spain  (Narrative)

Director: Javier Marco
Writer: Belén Sánchez-Arévalo
Logline: Far out at sea, a cell phone floating inside an air-tight bag starts to ring.

This story is narratively simple, but emotionally layered and tightly directed. It finds a uniquely human way into the refugee crisis but doesn’t do so in a pretentious or preachy manner. Javier and Belén have a way of looking at major social issues through a unique lens and do this in their other works as well. If you enjoyed this, I highly recommend checking out CLASSMATE by the same writer/director duo as both shorts were just recently made available online.  Javier and Belén are now working on their feature debut JOSEFINA starring Emma Suarez (JULIETA) and Javier was named a Berlinale talent at this year’s fest.
