Transcendent kingdom
As a huge fan of Yaa Gyasi’s debut novel HOMEGOING, I’ve been anxiously anticipating her follow-up novel TRANSCENDENT KINGDOM - and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s a beautifully written story that follows a Ghanaian-American woman named Gifty through her childhood in Alabama, her time as an undergraduate at Harvard, and finally as a PhD candidate at Stanford, during which time she must take care of her ailing mother. It’s an incredibly intimate tale about Gifty and her mother - whom she felt incredibly distanced from as a child - coming together and forging a newer, deeper relationship. I highly recommend!!
