You're most comfortable dangling off the edge of your seat.
When a film goes somewhere you weren’t expecting, that’s a very welcome surprise. In your eyes, a good movie should feel like a rollercoaster ride that you can’t get off. You love films packed with action that feel like a rocket ship blasting off from the moment they start. However, you also love nuanced stories and can always appreciate a particularly well-written character.
Here are three films we think you will love, personalized from your unique taste:
THE FUGITIVE (1993)
Dir. Andrew Davis
What would you do if you were being framed for murder? If you’re anything like Harrison Ford’s character in THE FUGITIVE, you’ll fight like hell in an attempt to clear your name. After Chicago surgeon Richard Kimbel’s wife is murdered and he’s framed for it, he’s determined to clear his name and find the true perpetrator. Harrison Ford shines in this absolute classic, which is chock-full of action and suspense—the scene at the dam in particular will stay with you. It’s gripping and fast-paced and is just the film to take you on a thrilling ride the next time you’re ready for a jolt of action.
Check this one out to see Harrison Ford at his best. You’ll love it if you also liked THE BOURNE IDENTITY or MIDNIGHT RUN.
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956)
Dir. Don Siegel
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS follows a doctor in a small town who discovers that aliens are quietly taking the place of humans. Each alien is an exact replica of the person they’re replacing, but lacks human emotion. This one is a classic, and it’s a thriller in the truest sense of the word. If you haven’t seen it yet, time to set things right.
Check this one out if you want to see perhaps the best alien movie ever made. You’ll love it if you also liked REAR WINDOW or SHUTTER ISLAND.
THE WHITE TIGER (2021)
Dir. Ramin Bahrani
Do you remember the last time you watched a soul-rocking film, just sitting there with chills? THE WHITE TIGER has the potential to be the next one to leave you with that feeling. Based on the 2008 Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name, THE WHITE TIGER is a gritty drama that subverts the normal “rags to riches'' tale with a darkly comedic tone and textured satirical commentary. The story follows Balram Halwai as he narrates his life coming from the rural town of Laxmangarh and from a low-caste lineage, to becoming a successful entrepreneur. Director Ramin Bahrani (CHOP SHOP) does an incredible job exploring the deep divide between the haves and have-nots, and the complexity of the human experience set against a system of corruption and generational injustice — all with such a darkly humorous tone that he manages to sidestep the pitfalls of exploiting trauma and tragedy.
Check this one out if you want to see a new take on the classic rags to riches trope. You’ll love it if you also liked SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE or PARASITE.
